World Emoji Day!
Have you heard👂? It’s World 🌎 Emoji day!
Can you believe the emoji was created over 20 years ago😲?! In 1999, there were 176 emojis and now there are over 3,000! ✨
The emoji was created in the 1990s by a Japanese artist, Shiegetaka Kurita. He innovated the mobile world by creating emojis to help reduce character counts. 👇
The original emojis were 12×12 pixel images that included a snowman, a smiley face, a camera, hearts and more! Although they were introduced in the ‘90s, they didn’t become popular in North America until around 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣2️⃣.
New emojis are released frequently, allowing for more creativity within our language. What started as a convenience has turned into a movie🎬, an annual holiday and an everyday representation of your mood😎.
