They would most likely ask their voice assistant “where is the nearest furniture store near me?” or “where can I purchase furniture?” Even though this is the same user searching for the same thing their search terms vary drastically based on a text versus voice search.

With conversational searches continuing to grow and comprise more and more of the average monthly searches made on Google, we have to adapt our optimization process. Our SEO strategies now have to incorporate a way to rank well for those searching using a voice assistant. Just like how we currently optimize websites for certain keywords and basic search terms we need to start optimizing pages for conversational search terms.

So what is the best way to make sure your website ranks high for those making a search using a voice assistant? Well one of the best tools to target these users is FAQ pages. Consider your business and what people may ask their voice assistant in order to find you. Then take these questions and answer them in an FAQ page on your website. That way you are providing content that directly matches conversational search terms and content that answers the questions they are asking to their voice assistants. FAQ pages for multiple businesses have already proven an increase in traffic when targeted at search terms most likely to be made with a voice assistant. Some businesses have gone as far as committing entire pages of content at identifying and answering a single question.

Send Users to the Right Place

Targeting content towards conversational search isn’t just about increasing your online traffic, it is also about sending users to the appropriate content on your website. If you are for example a hotel in a busy city, a common question about your hotel may be “does example hotel offer free parking?” If you have not optimized a page answering this question users may find it difficult to find this information, and may move onto a competitor. If you do take time to create content on your site answering important questions about your business, you are making it easier for those performing voice searches to access specific information about your business. This means users will not need to pursue your competitors to find information on services or amenities they are looking for.
